Truckload Carriers Association awards Jetco VP for safety

June 6, 2024
Jeff McKinney, Jetco Delivery's VP of safety, has been in the industry for over 25 years, starting as a driver before working into training and safety roles.

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) recently awarded Jeff McKinney, Jetco Delivery’s vice president of safety, the 2024 TCA Safety Professional of the Year Award at the organization's 43rd Annual Safety & Security meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana. This award recognizes trucking professionals whose work has deeply impacted roadway safety.

“One of the things I admire most about Jeff is how involved he is as a safety professional,” Amanda Schuier, strategic maintenance Director at Jetco and TMC general chairman & treasurer for 2024-2025 told Fleet Maintenance. “I rarely see him in his office because he's out "doing."  He is always interacting with our employees to make sure Jetco embodies our core value of Safety. Jeff is fun to work with, and he's embraced the evolving role of a safety person, which includes managing data to help us stay ahead.”

McKinney has been involved in the trucking industry for over 25 years, working his way up from a driver to vice president. He entered the industry in 1994 as a driver for Werner Enterprises, later becoming a safety supervisor. In 2001, he served as the lead trainer for United Driver Services, and in 2002, he joined General Logistics as their director of Safety and Operations. Finally, McKinney joined Jetco Delivery in 2007, where he worked on the early adoption of Elogs and earned his Certified Director of Safety designation from the North American Transportation Management Institute.

In his role at Jetco, Schuier emphasized how  McKinney brings his approach to safety to not just drivers, but diesel technicians, office staff, and more.

“I appreciate how Jeff incorporates accountability into Jetco’s safety culture,” said Jetco Delivery President Kyle Kristynik. “He partners well with our Operations team, encouraging a culture in which everyone – not just a single department – owns safety. Jeff also recognizes that for everyone to be successful at their jobs, they must have the training and tools to execute.”
