General Motors has issued a recall (25V390) for 62,468 Chevrolet Silverado trucks, MY 2019-2024 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500HD, due to a defective brake pressure sensor assembly, according to the NHTSA recall report. The assembly may allow brake fluid to leak past the diaphragm seal—which was made with an unauthorized chemical—and into the brake pressure switch and fuse. This may lead to loss of pressure and possible fire “in rare conditions.”
Owners are advised to park these models outside until the issue can be rectified. A sign that a Silverado has the bad assembly is an illuminated “service brake system” indicator light.
The issue was noted as early as April 2023. Testing completed on April 24, 2025 found “that the diaphragm was degrading due to the supplier’s use of an unauthorized chemical in the rubber that reacted with the brake fluid.” One fire was related to the defect out of 160 reports.
Owners will be notified starting on July 28, 2025, with dealers able to replace the brake pressure switch wire harness with one containing a silicone sealant to prevent brake fluid from flowing through it.
