VSP News: Kolman's Korner, Episode 99 - Commercial Truck Tires

Feb. 11, 2016
Chuck Yurkovich, senior vice president global research and development for Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, discusses the evolution of commercial truck tires.

Like automobile tires, commercial truck tires have evolved significantly over the past few decades. So says Chuck Yurkovich, Cooper Tire & Rubber Company’s senior vice president of global research and development.

Cooper is the parent company of a global family of businesses that specialize in vehicle tires, including Roadmaster commercial truck tires.

Improvements have also been made to casing durability which promotes retreadability, and that helps lower operating costs.

Truck tires have become much more of a global market, Yurkovich says, and notes that the quality of tires produced in China has increased over time.

The company makes its Roadmaster line of truck tires in China, but its production techniques and materials are the same as those used in the U.S.

There has been a recent refocus at Cooper Tire on commercial truck tires.
