In 2023, there were over half a million large truck (GVWR>10,000 lbs.) crashes in the U.S., according to NHTSA. The worst ones resulted in 5,472 fatalities and 153,452 injuries, but keep in mind there were also 408,000 that caused property damage. To avoid or at least mitigate the severity of these crashes, fleets can employ grille guards to physically protect the front end, or install onboard technology such as dash cams that detect risky driving and alert safety managers, as well as offer in-cab coaching. And of course, the latest trucks come standard with advanced driver assistance systems such as collision mitigation, blind spot detection, and lane assist.
