Commercial vans, like all vehicle types, have evolved over time. A significant developed occurred in the U.S. in 2001. That is when Daimler introduced its Freightliner Sprinter Vans, after having first launched it in Europe in 1995.

Since 2001, the commercial van market has changed considerably, says Mathias Geisen, general manager of product management and marketing for Mercedes-Benz Vans USA.

Like their bigger truck counterparts, commercial van operators are focused on total cost of ownership, plus they want efficiency, comfort and safety features.
