Geotab integrates with Cummins, adds curated data tool for fleets

Feb. 9, 2023
During its Geotab Connect 2023 event, the fleet telematics provider unveiled a new integration for select Geotab devices and Cummins engines, as well as a new tool that aims to help fleets navigate rising costs and supply chain pressures.

An upcoming integration between Geotab and Cummins will enable over-the-air (OTA) updates for Cummins engine control units directly through Geotab’s GO9 device, the companies announced during Geotab’s Connect 2023 event in Orlando, Florida. During the event, Geotab unveiled Data Connector, an integrated intelligence tool designed to help fleets address rising operating costs and supply chain, talent, and regulatory pressures.

OTA Connected Software Updates (CSU) will provide access to the latest Cummins software, ensuring fleet customers that their vehicle’s ECU is running at peak performance. In addition, CSUs, which can update engine software in less than five minutes, eliminate the need to perform calibration updates at service locations, maximizing uptime, Geotab noted in a press release.

OTA engine software updates also utilize a two-step approval process to ensure safe and secure installation, the company added.

“The Geotab and Cummins integration for over-the-air connectivity can save fleets time and money, while affirming uncompromised performance and security,” said Scott Sutarik, Geotab’s VP of enterprise solutions. “Connected Software Updates ensure that our customers with Cummins engines are taking advantage of the latest genuine Cummins firmware, ensuring peak performance and innovation.”

Geotab’s integration with Cummins will soon be available for select Geotab devices and compatible Cummins engines. Additional availability will be offered later this year, the company noted.

Geotab’s Data Connector integrated intelligence tool

Leveraging 22 years’ experience handling fleet customer needs, Geotab announced it has curated specific data sets and made that data accessible through a "no-code" integration with a fleet’s preferred business intelligence tool, such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Excel.

Geotab-curated data sets can then be integrated with fleet data from other sources such as maintenance or accounting systems, enhancing data analysis and automated reporting capabilities, the company said in a press release. Data Connector also includes report templates to translate a fleet's curated data into impactful insights, while helping to develop customer reporting dashboards.

"Collaboration with our fleet customers uncovered an opportunity to bridge a gap that brings the insights from connected vehicle data into popular BI platforms in order to provide fleets with the ability to access, analyze, and report meaningful data insights that matter most to their business," said Mike Branch, VP of data and analytics at Geotab. "Using Data Connector will prevent the siloing of data in organizations, breed more trust, and allow the right business stakeholders to have access to the data in a BI platform they're already familiar with."

Data Connector also can be a resource for enterprise-level fleets with more established data management programs and technical resources, the company added.
