Q: Do lubricating solids help extend kingpin life?
A: Absolutely. Lubricating solids like molybdenum disulfide (MOS2) and graphite provide protection during extreme shock loads. They are especially effective when sliding wear prevents hydrodynamic (oil film) lubrication from occurring. Selecting a waterproof, tackified grease with MOS2 and graphite will dramatically improve pin and bushing life. Schaeffer's Moly Supreme Synthetic Plus grease has +5 percent lubricating solids and costs less than $4.75 per tube.
