HDDA: Heavy Duty announced 20 product categories will be available in the heavy duty expansion of the Product Information Exchange Standard, known as PIES.

HDDA: Heavy Duty, a segment of the Auto Care Association, announced that the data standards for the heavy duty aftermarket are now available.

“Data standards are guidelines for the industry’s best practices for communicating and transmitting product information between heavy duty aftermarket suppliers and its selling chain,” says the Auto Care Association. The heavy duty expansion of the Product Information Exchange Standard (PIES) covers over 9,000 components and over 50,000 attributes, and according to the Auto Care Association, “It can reduce the ‘cost of doing business’ up to 20 percent. This means a potential profits improvement of 2-3 percent.”

Twenty product categories will be available in the heavy duty expansion of the PIES. They are:

  • Brakes
  • Charging system
  • Cranking system
  • Air conditioning, heating, and ventilating system
  • Ignition system
  • Frame components
  • Supplemental information devices
  • Front steer axle wheel end components

  • Axles – non-driven, rear
  • Axles – driven, front steering
  • Axles – driven, rear
  • Exhaust system

  • Cooling system
