Mack and Volvo sleeper trucks can now include Xantrex’s Freedom XC 1800W sine-wave inverter and charger as a factory option, saving fleets time and money they might have used installing their own. Xantrex, an inverter and inverter charger supplier, stated in a release that the Freedom XC converts DC power into the “cleanest AC power available.”
“Sine wave is the same power as you get at home – meaning the voltage is consistent without spikes or drops,” said Mitul Chandrani, VP of marketing for Mission Critical Electronics, the parent company of Xantrex. “That’s an important distinction, especially when operating sensitive medical devices, such as CPAP machines, and induction devices such as microwave ovens or appliances that use magnets or transformers.”

The inverter and inverter charger offers 4,000 watts of surge power for two seconds to allow for the use of power tools and high-draw devices from the vehicle, and the three-stage battery charger offers rapid battery recharging. Additionally, the Freedom XC’s 30-amp relay can sense when the truck is plugged into shore power and transfer its load automatically.
The Freedom XC works with both traditional and lithium-ion batteries, and comes with a cabin display panel that shows the AC, battery current, and a status bar for the inverter output percentage.
