Michelin updates regional drive tire for rolling resistance and traction

The new Michelin X Multi Energy D2 uses an updated tread and compound to address stop-and-go wear.

The company also used the 2026 TMC Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition this past March to introduce technologies focused on tire inspection and predictive maintenance, with TreadVision combining automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence to automate portions of the retread inspection process and the TreadEye laser-based measurement system capturing about 1,200 tread-depth data points per tire, providing information on wear trends, optimal pull points, and casing condition.

Michelin Connected Fleet also introduced Smart Predictive Tire for Class 7 and 8 trailers. The system combines real-time tire pressure and temperature monitoring with Michelin’s Smart Leak predictive algorithm to identify potential tire issues before they result in roadside failures.

“Our goal is to help fleets avoid the breakdown before it happens,” said Anderson Abernathy, VP of marketing for Michelin, during the press event.
