Continental adds Generation 5 regional haul tires
Continental has introduced two new regional haul tires, the Conti HSR 5 EP steer tire and Conti HDR 5 EP drive tire, as additions to its Generation 5 truck tire portfolio.
The tires are designed for regional applications that include frequent starts and stops, urban and suburban driving, and varying road conditions. Continental says both incorporate updated tread designs and compounds intended to balance tread wear, rolling resistance, and casing durability.
The Conti HSR 5 EP features a five-rib tread pattern and optimized footprint designed to promote more even tread wear, and the company estimates that it provides a 22% improvement in mileage compared with its predecessor, while maintaining low rolling resistance.
The Conti HDR 5 EP drive tire uses an open-shoulder tread design along with features intended to improve stone-trapping resistance and cut-and-chip protection. Continental estimates the tire provides a 19% improvement in mileage at removal compared with its predecessor while maintaining rolling resistance performance.
Both use Continental’s Generation 5 tread compound. The company also says the designs are intended to support casing durability and retreadability, which can affect total tire cost over the life of a casing.
"Regional fleets continue to face mounting pressure to improve operating efficiency while controlling costs," said Shaun Uys, VP marketing and sales, Truck Tires US. "The new Conti HSR 5 EP and Conti HDR 5 EP were developed to help fleets go farther on every tire investment through increased removal mileage, lower fuel consumption and enhanced casing life."
The Conti HSR 5 EP and Conti HDR 5 EP are available beginning in October 2026 in select regional haul sizes, with additional sizes planned throughout 2027.
