The PACCAR TX-12 PRO automated transmission is now available on medium-duty Kenworth vehicle models. More specifically, the automated transmission is now offered on Kenworth T380 and T480 trucks when matched with the PACCAR PX-9 engine.
“For customers who prefer an AMT (automated manual transmission) over an automatic option, the TX-12 PRO is the solution,” said Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “It gives customers great performance and toughness when they use the T380 or T480 in demanding vocational applications.”
The PACCAR PX-9 can be spec’d with a peak horsepower between 260-380 for on-highway and vocational use and up to 450 hp with 1,250 lb.-ft. of torque for fire service vehicles.
Meanwhile, the TX-12 PRO is designed for applications such as dump trucks, snowplows, and in chassis-mounted tanker configurations. It features an Extreme Duty clutch for low-speed maneuvering, a Rock Free mode, and an off-highway calibration tuned for changing soil conditions. Additionally, the transmission’s 12-speed gear set provides wide ratio coverage, and it comes with dual openings for trucks with a PTO. Both the transmission and clutch include internal oil temperature sensors, which can be displayed on the in-cab 7-in. digital display.
Oil maintenance intervals for the TX-12 PRO are 250,000 miles, and the clutch is maintenance-free.
