Lytx offers AI-based solution to combat fatigue

Lytx has launched its Fatigue Detection solution to help identify when drivers are showing signs of being tired with greater precision. When connected to a compatible dual-facing dashcam, Lytx Fatigue Detection “captures patterns of fatigue-related behaviors over a continual period” instead of in instances, the compay said.

The solutions combines machine vision (MV) and artificial intelligence (AI), and is then supported by human intelligence (HI), to provide fleets with alerts and notifications when a driver is showing signs of exhaustion. Lytx said its MV+AI system has been trained on more than 1 million hours of video and detects more than 100 types of risky behaviors with an estimated 95% accuracy rate.

Signs of fatigue the software looks for include:

drivers closing their eyes for more than one second
head nodding
leaning on the steering wheel
lane departures or "wandering"

Once the algorithm matches real-time behavior to what it has been trained to define as fatigue, the system provides in-cab alerts to correct dangerous behavior. Real-time professional reviewers can also send SME/text notifications to fleet managers to enact further preventive actions, like telling the driver to pull over.

Left unchecked, fatigue can hinder a driver from safely operating the truck. That of course increases the risk of a deadly accident and the possibility of a crushing nuclear verdict.
